International Project Coordinator
Description:
As a member of the team at the Association for Safe International Road Travel (ASIRT), an international road safety NGO based in Maryland, the International Project Coordinator will manage, monitor and assist in the planning and implementation of specific road safety projects in target countries. Project objectives are to create new and strengthen the capacity of existing non-governmental organizations devoted to improving road safety in developing countries. Specific responsibilities include strategic and project planning; and developing materials, organizing and facilitating training to enhance the effectiveness of NGOs as road safety advocates. The International Project Coordinator will oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of advocacy strategies and plans in collaboration with in-country partners. Other responsibilities include managing administrative and logistical aspects of the project, including monitoring and evaluation systems; providing technical assistance, participating in ASIRT planning visits, and preparation of final reports.
This position requires up to 5 weeks of international travel per year, primarily to middle income and developing countries.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's or equivalent degree; Masters Degree in International Development/Public Health or related degree preferred.
- Minimum 2-5 years general project management experience, preferably in an international NGO.
- Proven experience in design and delivery of international development programs, including monitoring & evaluation experience.
- Previous experience with international program management planning and technical guidance (in developing countries) highly desirable.
- NGO project work in developing countries, involving coordination of local stakeholder activities, and working with in-country staff, very desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills – working knowledge of a second language is a plus;
- Ability to work as a team member in a multi-cultural environment;
- Strong report writing skills;
- Solid organizational and administrative skills;
- Ability to take initiative and employ innovative solutions;
- Ability to work independently in a demanding, fast-paced, environment;
- Understanding of budgeting and reporting systems;
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
- Ability to travel to developing countries up to 5 weeks per year. This includes having no significant disqualifying factors that would preclude approval of entry visas in the countries on the ASIRT travel schedule.
