It puts a human face on the statistics presented in the many road safety reports published around the world. Speak up for Safety Cards
“Speak up for Safety Cards” are wallet-sized cards that include important road safety phrases in Russian, Chinese, Spanish, and English. (E-mail asirt@asirt.org to request cards.) |
A flash created by ASIRT that was launched at the First U.N. Global Road Safety Week at WHO headquarters in Geneva in April, 2007. This powerful presentation illustrates the universal and devastating impact of road crashes on families and society. In this moving collage of photographs of road crash victims, set to a haunting melody, we catch a glimpse of the “faces behind the figures” that represent the 1.2 million killed and over 50 million injured in road crashes every year. Remembrance can be used as an advocacy tool, as well as a memorial.
ASIRT provides road safety training seminars to study abroad program administrators, Risk Managers, Corporations, tourist offices and organizations. Workshops are tailored to the specific needs of the participants and incorporate strategies and resources that enable individuals and groups to make safe, informed decisions when planning trips and while traveling or living abroad. WHO worked with international partners, including ASIRT to produce the World report on road traffic injury prevention, published in 2004. The World Report serves as a framework for road safety efforts worldwide, providing a clear set of recommendations for action. The report identifies five key risk factors that contribute to the increase in road crashes:
1. Non-use of safety belts and child restraints
2. Drink driving
3. Non-use or inadequate use of helmets
4. Excessive speed and
5. Lack of or inadequate infrastructure.
